Area 53 Archivist Position Available | December 2020

The Archivist will work to support A. A.’s primary purpose of maintaining our sobriety and helping other alcoholics achieve recovery.   The Archivist along with the Area 53 Archives Committee will determine what to include in the collection and making the collected material available to the greatest extent possible to members of our Fellowship and those in the public realm with a valid interest in A. A.   The Archivist must have a strong interest in A.A. history, ensure the physical and the intellectual integrity of the collection, and be able to relate well to a wide range of people.

Qualifications for the Archivist will include the following knowledge and skills:

  • Knowledge of A.A.’s  twelve steps, traditions and concepts
  • A solid period of sobriety generally five years or more
  • Understanding of Area 53 Guidelines and the A. A. service structure
  • Experience serving in the Area 53 service structure
  • Collaborate with other Area 53 Committees and Officers
  • Organized (methodical and logical), with excellent administrative skills
  • Speak and present publicly at Area 53 service events and group functions
  • Familiar with archival procedures, including how to transfer documents and recordings  to a digital format
  • Willing to attend training and/or educational courses related to archives skills and knowledge
  • IT-literate and an ability to anticipate and prepare for changing uses of archived information
  • Develop and provide support for archives displays, programs and presentations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; responsibility to respond to communications in a friendly and timely manner

The Archives Committee Chairperson will select a responsible A.A. member to serve Area 53 as a non-rotating Archivist. The Archivist is a member of and reports to the Area 53 Archives Committee.
